快速繁育可以根据实验者的需求在更短的周期内得到更多的阳性鼠，以快速扩大繁育规模。采用体外受精（IVF）方式进行快速扩繁相当于雄鼠和大量的雌鼠在体外同时交配，保证了出生小鼠周龄的一致性，降低了由于小鼠周龄差异导致的实验误差，实验数据更可靠。也可以节省了数月的下游自然扩增育种时间。以繁殖100只小鼠为例，一般自然繁殖一代需要3个月，要达到100只的数量，需要6-8个月，而IVF仅需3个月。
