美国癌症研究所（Institute of Cancer Research）Hauschka用Swiss小鼠群以多产为目标进行选育，以后分送各国饲养实验，各国称之为ICR小鼠。适应性强，体格健壮，繁殖力强，生长速度快，实验重复性较好，是国际通用的封闭群小鼠。外周血象和骨髓细胞，具有较好的稳定性，是良好的血液学实验用动物。进行免疫药物筛选，复制病理模型较常用的实验动物。自发性肿瘤发生率低，雌鼠自发性畸胎瘤和管状腺瘤发病率为0%~1%，用氨基甲酸乙酯诱发时，11~16天胚胎期畸胎瘤和管状腺瘤发病率为5.9%，离乳个体管状腺瘤和囊瘤发生率为30%,孕鼠为3%。广泛用于药理、毒理、肿瘤、放射性、食品、生物制品等的科研、生产和教学。
